Each new generation of search has spawned industry giants.

Two parallel generational shifts are happening right now.Commerce hasn't picked a winner yet. Merchants will decide this battle.

  • Search 1.0 — Google. Keyword and PageRank.

  • Search 2.0 (General) — ChatGPT. Conversational answer agents.

  • Search 2.0 (Commerce)shopperGPT. Trimodal, real-time color matching across 16-million shades, onsite.

The wrong battle

99% of AI commerce conversations are fixated on getting merchants found by AI agents — GEO, AEO, the new SEO acronym soup. Interesting market, but no moat — the agents will solve discovery themselves. The investable problem is what happens after that. When ChatGPT or Perplexity recommends a product, the shopper buys, and the merchant never met them. The agent owns the relationship — email capture, upsell, second visit.

Amazon, Walmart, and Target — the Commerce Fortune 100 — already have paid or algorithmically preferred positions inside these agents.

The right battle

There's 6 million independent merchants needing infrastructure that does both — keeps discovery where it belongs (on the merchant's site) when shoppers arrive, and delivers external AI agent visibility when they go elsewhere.

visualAI is the only platform building both

In production, see it live

Cassie's Kurations — a real Shopify fashion store, 8,000+ products, real shoppers — recently went live with shopperGPT and cleanerGPT. Live A/B vs. native Shopify search. The case study is a must-read.

The 360° suite.

Four AI-Native products plus a developerAPI under the visualAI platform. One infrastructure stack. Two are live in production at cassieskurations.com; studioGPT is a fully-functional MVP demo; catalogGPT ships June 2026; the developerAPI + MCP server ships 2H 2026 — opening the engine to third-party builders, agencies, and AI agent hosts (ChatGPT Apps SDK, Claude, Gemini).

Natural language, precise color, and image similarity — combined in a single, plug-and-play search bar. Not a sidebar snap-on agent. Discovery time drops from minutes to just seconds, across the entire merchant catalog.

Turns supplier junk — keyword-stuffed titles, raw HTML specs — into clean, AI-readable product data. Built for the 1M+ Shopify dropshippers whose catalogs were never made for human shoppers, much less AI agents.

catalogGPT

June 2026

The bridge to ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google Gemini, and Shopify's UCP. Generates compliant product feeds in every protocol the AI agents actually read — completing the 360° AI discovery suite.

studioGPT

MVP Demo

AI virtual try-on. Two modes on one engine: consumer mode lets shoppers create avatars and try outfits on Shopify PDPs (Look creation drives multi-item single-click checkout); B2B mode generates bulk model-shots for merchants without on-model photography. Fully-functional MVP demo at vairetail.com/studiogpt-search — real catalog, end-to-end try-on and checkout.

Search, Enrichment, Feed, and Ingest endpoints, plus an MCP server for ChatGPT Apps SDK, Claude, and Gemini. The same engine that powers shopperGPT, cleanerGPT, catalogGPT, and studioGPT — exposed as developer infrastructure for headless storefronts, AI agents, ERPs, supplier feeds, and any platform that wants to build on the trimodal commerce stack.

From platform to infrastructure.

The developerAPI is more than the fifth surface in the suite. It's the move that converts visualAI from “four Shopify apps” into AI commerce infrastructure — the same proprietary engine that powers shopperGPT, cleanerGPT, catalogGPT, and studioGPT, exposed as developer endpoints and an MCP server for the rest of the market. Four REST endpoints (Search, Enrichment, Feed, Ingest) plus MCP tools for ChatGPT Apps SDK, Claude, and Gemini ship 2H 2026; ~80% already documented at developer.vairetail.com/docs.

The developerAPI isn't a fifth product. It's the productization of the engines already running in production — every dollar invested in the four GPT apps also paid for the infrastructure layer that ships next.

5–10x TAM expansion.

Today's products are Shopify-native. The API extends the engine to non-Shopify integrators — every headless storefront, every ERP, every AI agent that wants trimodal AI search and AI-readable catalog feeds without rebuilding the underlying infrastructure. Same engine, new audience.

Feed/GEO is its own category.

Search and Enrichment APIs sit in competitive markets. Feed/GEO doesn't — every PIM, ERP, headless storefront, and agency that wants its catalog visible to ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Shopify UCP becomes a candidate buyer. catalogGPT, exposed as infrastructure — and the only player addressing the AI-discoverability layer head-on.

Application multiples → infrastructure multiples.

API-first / infrastructure SaaS commands 10–20x ARR multiples (Algolia, Twilio, MongoDB) versus 5–8x for application SaaS. The same revenue line is worth materially more once the API has traction. Category step-up, not just a product line.

Compresses the build-vs-buy clock.

Once the API ships, every adjacent search and feed vendor — Algolia, Coveo, Constructor, the legacy feed-management stack — has a sharp decision: build trimodal + 16M-shade color + AI-ready feeds in their own platform, partner, or acquire the team that already shipped it. Multi-quarter project for them; ~80% complete for visualAI.

What we built that can't be cloned.

The moat is technical, legal, and compounding.

Real cloud infrastructure.
Not a wrapper.

325K+ lines of AI-native code running on a real production cloud backend — custom embedding pipelines for text, color, and image; a synonym graph; a multi-stage enrichment pipeline; production APIs serving live merchant catalogs. Anyone can vibe-code a chatbot. Almost no one can build this.

A breakthrough in
precise color search.

True 16M-shade color discovery — embedding-based, not category-based. The difference between coral and salmon, between forest green and olive, across thousands of products in real time. No commerce search platform on the market does this at this precision.

34-claim pending patent.

USPTO Application No. 19/211,109 — covering the multimodal search architecture and the underlying AI enrichment pipeline. Filed before the category was named. Both domestic and international protection requests have been filed.

A compounding
commerce-intent dataset.

Every shopper query, every color picked, every image searched — captured as structured data. Aggregated across the merchant network, it becomes a proprietary, real-time signal of what shoppers want, by category, by demographic, by season. The longer we run, the harder it is to catch.

Three revenue streams.
One codebase.

shopperGPT, cleanerGPT, and catalogGPT all leverage the same proprietary enrichment pipeline. Independent pricing power across three subscription products — built and maintained at a fraction of the cost of three standalone stacks. AI-Lean by architecture, not by belt-tightening.

Zero-risk merchant adoption path.

shopperGPT installs at 0% of traffic. Nothing changes on the merchant's store until they decide. A/B controlled from 1% to 100%, live conversion delta vs. native search, one-button revert in under 90 seconds. The fear of swapping out search has frozen this category for a decade. We just removed it.

AI-Lean GTM.
Zero SDR headcount.

100K+ targeted Shopify merchants worked via AI-leveraged outreach and funneling automations. The same operator profile that built the platform is running the demand engine. Ultra-low burn is the structural consequence — not a virtue, an architectural outcome.

Shopify Agentic Storefronts: floor, not ceiling. M&A is the more plausible play.

Shopify's Agentic Storefronts (announced Dec 2025, rolling out March 2026) syndicates merchant catalog data into ChatGPT. One feature. visualAI ships four products and a Developer API spanning trimodal search, catalog data quality, AI-readable feeds, virtual try-on, and ChatGPT Apps / MCP agent distribution. Shopify won't build all of that. They acquire it.

  • The Vantage pattern. Shopify paid $59M pre-revenue for one capability (hybrid search). They've done six AI tuck-in acquisitions in 2024 alone. The merchant-AI-stack is built by acquisition, not by native engineering.

  • Single-protocol scope. Agentic Storefronts is a Shopify-to-OpenAI pipe. visualAI is a many-protocol layer (UCP, ACP, MCP, Schema.org JSON-LD). With OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic each driving competing standards, single-protocol bets are the merchant's biggest risk.

  • Beyond Shopify. Most mid-market and enterprise commerce volume lives outside Shopify (Magento, Commerce.com, WooCommerce, Salesforce, headless). The Developer API reaches all of it; Shopify doesn't.

Bottom line: Agentic Storefronts validates the category. The most plausible Shopify play for the full stack is acquisition, not replication. Vantage at $59M for one capability is the precedent.

Why Now? Why Us?

The AI commerce protocols just shipped. Shopify UCP went live January 2026, co-developed with Google. OpenAI ACP is rolling out across 1M+ Shopify merchants. Perplexity Shopping is live. The infrastructure is here, the merchants aren't ready, and the window to build a defensible position is roughly 12 months. No platform is solving both sides.

Strategic comp validates the timing. Shopify acquired Vantage Discovery for $59M pre-revenue in March 2025 — a single-product hybrid search startup with no patent. visualAI is the platform completion: four products on a deeper engine, a 34-claim patent, live merchants, and a data flywheel none of them have.

Joe Monastiero. Prior IPO (InterVideo, NASDAQ: IVII) and M&A exits with Intel and Corel. Decade in this exact problem space (founded nFlate / SiBi in 2013 — one of the first multimodal visual-search marketplaces for fashion). Still writes production code. Architected the entire GCP backend, multi-tenant data plane, ETL and enrichment pipelines, embeddings, vector retrieval, and the Shopify React app to keep burn at zero until the architecture was proven. Now it's live.
